Crack Injection: Ask Whether the Proposal Targets Bonding, Water Entry or Both
Two providers can describe crack injection while proposing different results. Before treating their quotations as interchangeable, ask what each material and scope is intended to accomplish. Restoring a defined bond, addressing water entry and accommodating a moving condition are not automatically the same task simply because material is introduced into a crack.
Describe the problem before choosing the material
Tell the provider what has actually been observed: a visible crack, reported change, water under particular conditions or a prior treatment. Keep an unknown cause unknown. A photograph of a dry crack does not establish the conditions present during wet weather or at the time of application. Ask which observations or appropriate professional review are needed to choose the scope, rather than selecting a resin from a familiar trade name.
Check the stated purpose and application limits
Read the actual proposed system’s current information with the provider. For example, the cited Sika epoxy document includes a limitation concerning injection while hydrostatic pressure is present. That illustrates why application conditions matter; it is not an endorsement or evidence that a SlabWorx provider uses that product. Nor should a limitation on one material be generalized into a conclusion about all injection systems. Ask the provider how its chosen material relates to the actual purpose and conditions.
Keep the completion claim specific
Have the accepted scope state what will be reviewed on completion and which questions remain outside it. A treated crack should not silently become a whole-basement waterproofing guarantee or a structural approval. If an engineering or other specialist decision is needed, keep it assigned to the appropriate professional. Distinguish the intended water-entry outcome from any separate bonding or movement question, and preserve the project’s written terms. This lets the owner compare like-for-like work without assuming that a shared method name means shared capabilities, exclusions or expected performance.
Copyable worksheet
Use one row for each field. Mark unknown information clearly and retain the original records.
| Field | Your note |
|---|---|
| Observed crack and water history | ____________________ |
| Intended bonding or water-entry result | ____________________ |
| Selected system and stated limits | ____________________ |
| Specialist question still open | ____________________ |
| Completion evidence for the agreed purpose | ____________________ |
Worked example
Illustrative example: a fictional owner receives two injection proposals for a basement crack. The providers clarify different purposes and application assumptions. The owner requests a comparable scope instead of choosing a total on the assumption that both offers include identical water control and structural outcomes.
