Compare the Weather Assumptions Behind Two Concrete Repair Quotes
Two winter repair quotes may describe the same area while assuming very different working conditions. Before ranking the totals, ask what each contractor has included for access, preparation, protection and return to use. Keep the project location in the discussion; a national seasonal headline is not a local installation specification.
Compare conditions, not slogans
Ask which product or repair system is proposed and which current instructions apply. Clarify how site suitability will be checked and what happens if conditions differ from the estimate. Avoid treating phrases such as “winter-ready” as a complete explanation of the work.
Expose the operational assumption
Tell each bidder about occupants, deliveries and the period the area can be unavailable. Ask whether those constraints are reflected in the proposed scope. Protection and release decisions should be project-specific; this worksheet does not establish a cure time, warranty or permission to reopen.
Copyable worksheet
Use one row for each field. Mark unknown information clearly and retain the original records.
| Field | Your note |
|---|---|
| Repair system and document revision | ____________________ |
| Assumed site conditions | ____________________ |
| Included preparation and protection | ____________________ |
| Access and downtime assumption | ____________________ |
| What changes if an assumption fails | ____________________ |
Worked example
Illustrative example: one quote assumes a closed loading area while the other assumes traffic can continue. The difference needs to be resolved before the totals are treated as comparable. Choosing the lower total does not resolve an incompatible access assumption.
